Practice Areas for Internships

State and Local Tax

With an internship in State and Local Tax (SALT), you'll learn how interesting and lesser-known tax and compliance measures - like sales & use tax, personal property tax, and unclaimed property - affect businesses all across the country.

Risk and IT Risk Advisory

When you intern in Risk Advisory, you get to work with our largest team serving some of our largest clients. Risk and IT Risk cover a variety of disciplines, including compliance, enterprise risk management, internal audit, and IT audits.

Audit and Assurance

Interns in our Audit and Assurance practice get hands-on experience with the most common types of audits, such as employee benefit plan and financial statement audits. Most importantly, interns learn how to become an audit partner, not just an auditor.

Income Tax

For interns taking a traditional income tax route, our Tax practice offers a unique experience to work on a variety of tax types, such as corporate income tax, pass-through entities, personal tax, multistate income and franchise tax, and accounting for income taxes (ASC 740).

Read Devon's Story
Devon gained a sense of advancement by working on real client projects. Networking opportunities helped establish valuable connections.

"During my internship, I’ve been able to experience what it's like to be in the professional world. Up to this point, I've worked mainly in customer service jobs, so I've never truly had the experience of being in an office in a professional setting. So, I'd have to say my favorite part of all of this is that feeling of advancement I'm getting as I'm working on actual client projects, networking at events, getting to understand what other people’s positions are like, and really what I could expect down the line continuing a position like this. Networking in general, has really helped me to establish what people might expect of me and just overall establish more long-term connections that'll be helpful down the line."

Meet Josiah

Discovered the importance of collaborating on work with others.

Read Josiah's Story
Josiah discovered the importance of collaboration. Learned that working with others is not just helpful but essential.

"I think, probably like most college accounting students in your first internship, you go into it, and you're expecting to sit behind a desk, look at numbers, and do work the entire time. On one of the first weeks, Mike Bauer, who's the Director of the Audit group, I remember him saying, “As an accountant, I work with people we just talk about numbers.” So that really has shaped my internship. In school, when you work with people to a degree, it's like cheating. You can't get the answers from other people. However, once you get to the working world, not only is it good but it's like required and super helpful to be sharing with other people, learning from them, and doing work together. So, I think that the biggest thing that's contributed to my learning experience is that you need to collaborate with other people."

"Having a direct line of communication to be able to talk to the directors of the practice has been the most influential part of my experience. A lot of other interns at different firms don't get that opportunity. The directors were able to share a lot of knowledge with me that I would not get otherwise, like how they got to the position they're at today and to be head of their department."

"Since my first day here, I got to experience interesting trainings and projects on software I've never used before. Therefore, not only are the technical developments rewarding, but I feel really lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing and smart team.

I've gotten the opportunity to make all kinds of relationships here at Clearview Group, not just in my department, which is to the credit of intern events being so inclusive. I admire the individuals I work with in my department and how they're able to make work such an enjoyable learning environment, as well as those I've had the ability to converse with in other departments around the office. Found passion in his work through taking risks and rewarding relationships.

Read Adam's Story
Adam found passion in his work through rewarding relationships. Grew more confident in taking risks and making connections.

The most rewarding part of my internship at Clearview Group is the passion I've had coming into work each day. I wasn't totally sure about accounting when starting my internship. I was pretty sure I liked it, but I think being here, I realized that it's a lot of fun, especially if the relationships you make around you are very rewarding. It makes it a lot easier being able to talk to other people about what you're doing and learn from other people about what they're doing. Especially being able to do real, authentic work, it feels like I’m actually doing something that’s very rewarding.

My internship at Clearview Group has helped me to be more willing to just go for stuff. Coming in, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the professional world. Then throughout my internship, I was able to learn some things and gain that confidence that's going to really help me in my next career steps. Going forward, I know I have the confidence to do my best and also not be afraid to do something wrong. Or even be confident to introduce myself and make those relationships because I know those are the most rewarding parts of working at Clearview Group.
